FUKUDOME!

Cubs land is smiling this morning as the Cubs locked up Fukudome for 4 years late last night.

Ron Santo will have to go through some special training to pronounce that name correct.

Piniella committed to Theriot

From the Daily Herald

Still the shortstop: Despite a bad September fade that hurt his stats, Ryan Theriot will be the Cubs' shortstop in 2008, according to the manager.

"He earned it," Lou Piniella said. "He played really, really well."

Surprisingly as I browse the Cubs blog nation, most Cubs bloggers are upset that we are sticking with Theriot in 2008....what do you want? Ronny Cedeno? Give me a break. It's not realistic to think we can get Jose Reyes or Derek Jeter....so cut this kid some slack. It was just a few months ago that everyone sang The Riot's praises for his defense and hustle. Teams need those components. They are important. They fire up the crowd. They inspire the teammates.

I am sure if Theriot bats .230 and sucks it up, come May or June, we'll have a replacement. So be patient. And when he bats .290 this year and steals another 25-35 bases, TAKE BACK YOUR STATEMENTS!

THE RIOT!

The Riot is still our starter!

This post is very much late to the game, but again, work has been absolutely killing me. But Kaz Matsui was signed by the Houston Astros. Again, cementing themselves as the worst decision makers in the NL Central.

We celebrate that news here at turning-two.com....as Ryan Theriot is still locked in as the starting shortstop for the 2008 season.

We have to be honest and were just a tad afraid that Kaz Matsui would steal The Riot's playing time....but then we realized how foolish that would be. Thankfully Jim Hendry did as well.

I stumbled across this recent interview with The Riot. Praise goes out to MLB Rumors for posting this.

This statement almost made us have to rethink our blog title:
ELI: You've been forced to switch numbers several times over the past couple seasons, are you finally set with number 2?

RYAN: I was actually thinking about switching to number three for next year. I've made a couple changes. I never wanted to be number 55, I always wanted a single number. So I moved to seven, then to three, and then back to seven. But DeRo [Mark DeRosa] took that so I got two. I think I will stay with number 2, unless we acquire Derek Jeter this off season.

Whew....please stay with 2 Riot....please!
