I just caught a great spot the riot did on XM radio on the Rob Dibble MLB on XM show. All I can say is that, "Finally, the riot is getting some pub!" I thought the interview was great, riot seemed like a really funny guy and a great force to have in the locker room. Some thoughts on the interview.
When asked what spot in the order he preferred, riot joked that he should be batting 4th. While it was a funny spot he did talk about how tough it is when he's batting 8th due to the fact that you get pitched around with the pitcher batting behind you. To be honest I really think Lou needs to get Riot in the top of the order, with Fukudome hitting well in the 2 hole it's tougher but what I'd really like to see is for Lou to take advanate of Theriot's team best OBP by batting him leadoff. The OBP really gets wasted in the 8 hole. It would enable Soriano to hit 3rd and to finally get the terrible Derrek Lee in the 6 or 7 spot where he really should be hitting.
Theriot also talked about how much he liked Will Clark, apparently they've hung out together quite a bit. But I gotta give the Riot a little bit of a disapproving glance on this one. Lest he forget that back in '89 Clark basically single handedly took down the cubs in the playoffs. Also a huge coming out party for Gracey, who batted over .400 for the series.
I'm not sure who Dibble's side kick on the show is, but he asked one terrible question. He went on and on about the synergy of the double play combo and asked Theriot if he missed having DeRosa at second. He was completely oblivious to the fact that Riot and Fontenot have played SS and 2B together for over a decade and won the National Championship at LSU in 2000. I think the Riot will be fine with Fonty over there.
At any rate it was a great spot, it's good to be able to talk about baseball and get some new content to post about with the Riot. I'm super excited about his fast start and hope to see him at the top of the order soon.
Let the official call to get Riot voted into the All-Star game start!
Go Cubs!
